Press Releases:
AUDUBON OF FLORIDA RECOGNIZES BALDWIN PARK
ORLANDO, FL (January 19, 2005) Audubon of Florida,
a state office of the National Audubon Society announced
its 2004 awards for commitment to Audubons mission
and dedication to its special projects. Baldwin Park Development
Company received the Distinguished Corporation Award for
its leadership contributions to Audubon of Florida, and
in recognition for the companys premier Smart Growth
redevelopment of the former Naval Training Center in Orlando.
With over 200 acres of parks and 250 acres of lakes, the
objective at Baldwin Park was to create a habitat that would
be significantly more attractive to wildlife than might
typically be expected in a new home community. With this
goal in mind, the developer partnered with Audubon of Florida
on environmental aspects of development project. The collaboration
with Audubon of Florida in planning the parks and water
edges has aided in creating viable ecosystems where none
existed before.
Accepting the Distinguished Corporation Award was David
Pace, Managing Director of Baldwin Park Development Company.
We are proud of what we have been able to accomplish
in partnership with Audubon. Throughout the neighborhood
you can see evidence of their involvement. Without their
expert advice we may not have made some of the sensitive
land use decisions that have proven to be very attractive
to new homebuyers and enjoyable to those already
living here, says Pace. Pace was asked to serve as
Audubon of Floridas Central Florida Corporate Council
Chairman. In this role, Pace assists Audubon of Florida
in its campaign to engage local business leaders in its
vision.
Baldwin Park, on 1,100 acres located just two miles from
downtown Orlando, is one of the largest infill re-development
projects in the country. Built on the site of a former Naval
Training Center, the purpose was to turn a defunct military
college into a sustainable, traditional neighborhood that
would complement the surrounding community. At completion,
plans call for Baldwin Park to have approximately 4,000
homes, 850,000 square feet of commercial and retail space,
and 8,000 residents. With a variety of home styles from
townhomes to custom homes, a vibrant Village Center, top-rated
schools, abundant parks and lakes, and a pedestrian-friendly
layout, Baldwin Park is an exciting addition to Orlando's
existing neighborhoods.
